When learning more about the world of jewelry collecting I consulted many different reference books to get a feel for time periods, values, components, styles, designers, workmanship and quality. Before or after acquiring a piece of jewelry it is wise to look it up online in venues such as eBay, Etsy, or eCrater to name just a few. That will give you a feel for what the market prices are of similar items in real time.
